As a part of Southwire’s ongoing partnership with Solarize Carrollton-Carroll and in alignment with the company’s commitment to sustainability, Southwire is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with Creative Solar USA, a Georgia-based, turn-key installer of innovative solar panel systems, dedicated to alternative energy solutions for homes and businesses, to install a solar panel array at the company’s Thorn Customer Solutions Center.
Solar Crowd Source serves as the administrator for the solar program, Solarize Carrollton-Carroll – one of five ongoing community-based solar energy bulk-purchasing campaigns throughout Georgia dedicated to making solar energy more affordable and accessible for the citizens of Carrollton and Carroll County. The group purchasing program helps homeowners, businesses and nonprofits reduce the cost of solar energy through bulk purchasing – meaning more participation results in lower costs for everyone.
“This partnership is another way we are strengthening our commitment to sustainability,” said Rich Stinson, Southwire’s President and CEO. “As we work toward being generationally-sustainable, two very important pieces of that future are our environmental focus and our commitment to our community. This partnership aligns with both.”
The solar panel system will be installed by Creative Solar USA beginning this year and is expected to be completed in early 2019. The 124.1-kilowatt DC, roof-mounted, solar panel array will offset approximately 25 percent of the site’s electricity consumption and is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 84 metric tons of CO2-equivalent – the same impact as planting 85,565 trees or removing 695 vehicles from the road.
“The project will reduce Southwire’s CO2 emissions and demonstrates a solar energy solution for our many customers and partners that visit the Thorn Center,” said Jeff Herrin, Senior Vice President of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) and Quality. “In addition, our commitment to this project will lower the cost for the participants of the Solarize Carrollton-Carroll program.”
The solar panel system size that Southwire will install is large enough to trigger a rebate for all participants in the program.
“With the purchase of their solar system, Southwire has taken both residential and commercial participants to the lowest tier pricing, which will reduce the cost of all systems by 20 to 25 percent.” said John Hinman, Chairman of the Solarize Carrollton-Carroll steering committee. “We continue to see Southwire’s engagement within our community, and it’s clear that they are acting on their commitment to sustainability.”
