We have increased our manufacturing capacity for our core building wire products and enhanced our distribution footprint with the acquisition of United Copper Industries, located in Denton, Texas.

“This acquisition supports all three of Southwire’s key strategic goals: to build organizational capability, drive operational excellence and accelerate growth,” said Rich Stinson, Southwire president and CEO. “We will extend our company’s leading position in our core building wire products as we grow a generationally sustainable organization.”

Why did Southwire Purchase United Copper?
United Copper was the third largest manufacturer of building wire in the United States, offering a full line of copper building wire products and metal-clad cables. The company has a workforce of approximately 300 employees. The 450,000-square-foot facility is comprised of sales and support resources, a copper rod mill, a manufacturing plant, and distribution services. The manufacturing facility makes all major types of 600 volt building wire used in both residential and commercial construction applications. We plan to fully integrate this campus as a strategically-located facility with opportunities for long-term operations, expansion and increased capacity.

We’re Committed to Growing Core Markets
“This acquisition provides us with an opportunity to expand one of our largest product offerings for both electrical wholesalers and retail customers,” said Norman Adkins, executive vice president and president of Southwire’s Construction Systems and Solutions Group. “As we focus on the ever-developing needs of our customers, the addition of United Copper will help to expand our operational footprint to better serve our customers with increased capacity and distribution services as the facility is near our high growth markets, particularly in the Midwest and on the West Coast.”

For 66 years, we have built a strong reputation for quality and reliability. “During that time Southwire has developed many longstanding relationships with our customers,” added Adkins. “Our goal is to continue to provide all these qualities as we move into the future. This is a very exciting time in our history and demonstrates our commitment to investing in our business to bring even greater value to our customers.”
